PETALING JAYA: The three Turkish men who were arrested and deported for allegedly threatening national security were reportedly interrogated upon arriving home.
The trio - Turgay Karaman, 43, Ihsan Aslan, 39, and Ismet Ozcelik, 58 - were deported on Thursday night as they were suspected of being involved with the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation (Feto).
According to Turkey's Anadolu Agency news agency, they were detained after arriving in Istanbul from Malaysia on Friday.
It said all three were handed over to the Ankara Police Department’s anti-terror unit to be interrogated.
On Friday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that based on investigations, the three men were involved in activities related to Feto.
Turgay and Ihsan were arrested on May 2 while Ismet was picked up on May 4 while he was travelling in a car with his son, Suheyl and another unidentified individual.
Ismet was supposed to stand trial for allegedly obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
Ihsan's Malaysian wife, Ainnurul Aishah Yunos Ali Maricar, said on Friday that she did not know that her husband was deported and only found out the next day when journalists contacted her.
She added that there were no indications that her husband would be deported when she met with him on Thursday afternoon with her lawyer.
The wives of Turgay and Ismet had previously claimed that Ankara may have influenced Malaysian authorities to make the arrests in a bid to prosecute followers of Muhammed Fethullah Gulen.
Gulen is a US-based preacher and Feto's leader whom Ankara blames for a coup attempt in Turkey last July.
