Four employees of the Penang Tithes Management Centre (PUZ) have been remanded for seven days by MACC

'Datuk' among four PUZ employees remanded

 
GEORGE TOWN: Four employees of  the Penang Tithes Management Centre (PUZ) have been remanded for seven days to facilitate in Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations.  

The four - including a high-ranking senior officer with the title Datuk - were brought to court here at 3pm on Tuesday in two vehicles along with seven contractors who were also remanded.  

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid granted the remand.    
The senior officer was detained over alleged misappropriation of zakat funds.
He is believed to have accepted valuable items, cash and cheques from several contractors and PUZ suppliers as inducement for giving projects related to zakat community development programmes.  
Zakat payments are made based on a percentage of income earned by companies and individuals.
