MELAKA: A student of a public university was charged in the magistrate’s court here today for peeping into a public toilet two years ago.
Casually dressed in red t-shirt and jeans, Lee Zong Chen, 22, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by a court interpreter before magistrate Norina Maludin.
Lee was charged with entering a female toilet and peeping on Way Seang Yee, then aged 16, with the intent to insult the modesty of the girl at Level 6 six of the Urban Transformation Centre at about 3.30pm on Aug 27, 2015.
The offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code provides a maximum jail sentence of five years or a fine, or both.
Prosecuting officer Nora Yaacob proposed a RM3,000 bail.
Attorney Nik Norhaizun Che Mat who was representing Lee, requested for a lower bail amount as Lee is still a student of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).
“My client is also dependent on his father, who is only a factory worker earning RM2,000 a month while his mother is unemployed,” she said.
Magistrate Norina set bail at RM2,500 with one surety pending mention of the case on June 6.
