SAC Kamarulzaman said in a statement that a group of men emerged from the surau after the prayers at about 1.30pm Friday to confront the driver, who was with a woman, inside the car.
He said as a result of the driver's action (honking), several people beat him up and damaged the car.
He said police received information of the incident and rushed to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control.
He added that several people, including the surau’s committee members, were taken to the police station where a meeting was held with both parties.
He said those involved had agreed to allow police to handle the investigations without any outside interference.
Part of the incident was recorded by an onlooker and a video clip of the incident went viral on social media.
SAC Kamarulzaman warned the public not to speculate on the incident by sharing the video and giving unnecessary comments.Read more at http://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2017/05/06/four-nabbed-for-rioting-at-johor-baru-surau/#d4xeUFTS2cLcFLFX.99
