Dentures knocked out after baring teeth over JPJ check
GEORGE TOWN: A fracas between a retired civil servant, his two sons and Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers resulted in smashed dentures when a toll booth bar struck the retiree in Jawi, Nibong Tebal.
It is learnt that the officers flagged down the car driven by the retiree’s son at 11.10am on Saturday but the instruction was ignored. The retiree was earlier spotted sticking his head out from the car to take some pictures.
South Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Abdul Shafee Abdul Samad said the driver later stopped the car on the centre lane of the expressway.
“Three JPJ personnel ordered the driver to hand over his MyKad and driving licence but this was ignored by the driver.
“The retiree and his other son pushed one of the JPJ officers and questioned their authority,” he told a press conference after attending a dialogue with the auxiliary police and the epaulette presentation ceremony at the Ivory Tower in Jalan Datuk Keramat yesterday.
He said the JPJ officer again asked for the MyKad which the driver complied this time.
“The officer then took the MyKad and asked the trio in the car to follow them to the Jawi police station.
“The retiree demanded that the MyKad be returned but the officers just drove off and they gave chase,” Supt Abdul Shafee said.
At the toll booth, the officers were forced to stop after the car braked in front of them.
“The retiree came out and again asked for the MyKad as his son wanted to use it as a Touch ‘N Go card.
“He was ignored and as the officers’ car pulled away, he gave chase on foot and that was when the bar came down and hit him in the mouth causing his dentures to fall out.
“The set of dentures with eight teeth broke upon hitting the ground. Both parties have since lodged separate police reports,” he said, adding that the case was classified as obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duty.
A video of the altercation has since gone viral after it was uploaded on social media.
