PETALING JAYA: Police have nabbed a 17-year-old youth who was implicated in an armed robbery in Ara Damansara on Oct 5, footage of which went viral on social media.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said that the suspect was arrested by Serdang police at about 10am on Monday an apartment in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong near here.

Two video clips of two women allegedly being mugged had been circulating on social media, with date and time stamps showing that the crime happened at 3.50am Wednesday.

At 5.30pm on the same day, a police patrol team in Desa Ria spotted the vehicle used in the robbery.

Police ordered the driver to pull over but he rammed into a car in front of him, hitting the patrol vehicle, before speeding off.

A two-kilometre chase ensued which ended in Desa Mentari.

During the chase, the suspect's car grazed the right side of the patrol vehicle in a bid to escape, causing police to open fire.

Five shots were fired and a few hit the suspect's car, which prompted the driver to pull over and flee on foot.

Checks by police found that the car was reported stolen from a 25-year-old Customs Department officer during a robbery in Jalan SS4B/10 on Sept 23.

Nine packets of a substance believed to be heroin were also found in the car.

The case is being investigated for armed gang robbery, attempted murder and drug possession.
