Malaysian Federal Police is tracking down a bearded man with a walking stick

Man wanted for questioning over alleged assault

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is tracking down a bearded man with a walking stick seen in a picture in which an individual is alleged to have been assaulted.

The picture, which has gone viral, shows the man in a red shirt pointing at the alleged victim, who is believed to have been part of a Bersih convoy.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar(pic) said police wanted to question the man in the red shirt.

“We are aware of the pictures circulating on social media and we are investigating,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.

The pictures also show a similar looking man wearing a white shirt with a Barisan Nasional logo.

It could not be ascertained if it was the same man.

The latest development comes on the heels of two men in Bersih t-shirts being attacked in Sabak Bernam.

Selangor police will be calling up Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunus for his statement on the matter.

State police chief Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said police are in the process of contacting Jamal.

He added that no more arrests had been made apart from the three persons arrested initially for rioting and later released.

On Saturday, Red Shirt protesters were seen in a video pelting eggs at the two men, with one of them even kicked in the back.
