Bersih 5.0 Convoy Continues on Saturday Without Any Clashes as Red Shirts Stand Down to do charity work

Thanks for not harassing us, Bersih tells Red Shirts

SEKINCHAN: Bersih 5.0 enjoyed an incident-free drive from the office of Sekinchan DAP assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, where the Kuala Selangor leg of their nationwide convoy was flagged off at 3pm.

A distribution of flyers was scheduled in Taman Bayu, Kampung Baru, Pasir Penambang and Kampung Permatang, where a high tea event attended by Pakatan Harapan leaders was held at the Rumah Tok Za'aba.

At the event, a Bersih spokesperson said this leg of the convoy was the most peaceful to date, and congratulated the Red Shirts for "repenting and finding something more useful to do instead of harassing us".

Many speakers referenced the incident at the Sabak Bernam leg of the Bersih convoy, where Red Shirts reportedly kicked and pelted some Bersih supporters with eggs.

Harassment by Red Shirts were also recorded at several places nationwide.

In a Facebook posting on Friday night, Red Shirt leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos said they would not oppose the Bersih 5 roadshow on Saturday afternoon.

He said, instead, their focus would be “on charity work for the residents of Sungai Besar and Selangor to face the high tide phenomenon expected to take place from October 15 to 19.”

The post was later edited by the Sungai Besar Umno division chief to omit mention of the Red Shirts driving Bersih to their graves after said time frame.

Jamal also shared posts with pictures of the Red Shirts building an embankment out of sandbags to fortify the nearby residential areas against expected floods.

A ceramah at Stadium Kuala Selangor on Saturday night is expected to see the attendance of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The Bersih 5.0 nationwide convoy will culminate in a rally on Nov 19.
