SUNGAI PETANI: A woman was expecting her second child only at the end of this month but her baby was impatient and made her grand entry at a fast food outlet here.

Nur Haslina Abdul Halim, 29, her husband Mohd Lufti Hussein and their year-old son were having a meal at Marrybrown restaurant in Amanjaya Mall here when her water broke.

Fortunately for the couple, Marrybrown Aman Jaya manager Shahrizal Daud, 43, a mother of eight, was quick to react.

She called the nearby Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital while her female staff formed a human barrier to shield Nur Haslinah during the incident at about 10.40pm on Sunday.

An off-duty nurse shopping in the mall chipped in to help before the arrival of medical personnel from the hospital.

At 11.10pm, the healthy 2.59kg baby girl was delivered.

Mohd Lufti, when met at the maternity ward of the hospital yesterday, said he was most relieved that all went well.

“We were at the mall to buy some baby items and dropped by at Marrybrown for a meal after our shopping.

“While eating, Nur Haslinah said she felt uncomfortable and I had planned to send her to hospital after our meal but my baby girl did not wait and I am grateful for everyone’s help.

“My wife and newborn girl will be discharged (today),” he said.

Marrybrown Group CEO Datuk Joshua Liew, 37, was also excited when he was informed soon after the child was born.

“Since Mohd Lufti is from Johor, Marrybrown Johor will organise a grand celebration to welcome the ‘Marrybrown Baby’ when she returns to Johor to meet her relatives,” he said adding that the baby will also enjoy free birthday parties with her friends and relatives at any Marrybrown outlet until she is 12 years old.

“It is a blessing for us (Marrybrown) as my mother, Datin Nancy Liew, who is also our founder, was born on Oct 2 as well,” he said.

SUNGAI PETANI: A 27-year-old housewife gave birth to a baby girl at a fast-food outlet in a mall here on Sunday night.

Nurul Haslina Abdul Halim, who was due to give birth on Oct 28, wanted to have supper with her husband, Mohd Lutfi Hussein, 33, at the Marrybrown restaurant after shopping for essential items for their baby when she suddenly felt abdominal pains.

"As the baby was about to be born, I felt pain in my abdomen but I thought that was normal since there was no indication of giving birth. However, as I stood to wash my hands, my water bag broke.

"My husband later sought help from the restaurant's staff since I couldn't move.

"Coincidentally, there was a nurse from a private clinic who happened to be at the scene and she helped me through," Nurul Haslina told reporters when met at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here Monday.

She said her second child, weighing 2.56kg, was born at 11.20pm, and they were taken to the hospital.

"I was actually expecting to give birth on Oct 28," she said, adding that she would name the baby Nor Dayana.

The couple from Kulim near here were married in 2011 and have a 13-month-old son Muhammad Aqhar Mohd Lufti.
