KUALA TERENGGANU: Two women including a nurse, were arrested by the State Health Department officers for selling unregistered cosmetics products or medicine online.
The 24-year-old nurse attached with a private hospital here, was running her business through her Instagram account.
The woman, who is believed to have been selling the products since last year, has more than 10,000 followers on her Instagram account.
State Health Department director Dr Mohammad Omar said the woman also provided beauty injections to her customers despite not being licensed to perform such procedures.
He said, during the raid at her house, which had been converted into a beauty centre, enforcement officers seized 38 types of unregistered cosmetic products worth RM8,000.
"Among the cosmetic products seized were Cindella Injection, Placenta Lucchini, Vitamax 2Gs Nano, Tren Injection, and Veniscy Coenzyme Q10 EGF.
"These products were contained in vials and applied via injections," he said in a press conference in Kuala Terengganu today.
In the same operation, Dr Mohamad said enforcement officers also seized unregistered medicine and cosmetics from a housewife, in her 30's who was also selling her products through the internet.
"Among the products seized were Surut Ayu, Bella Formula, Jamu Jelita, and Jamu Rapat Malam worth RM90,000. We also seized a laptop computer and mobile phone," he added.
Mohammad said a total of six people were arrested during 'Ops PANGEA 1X', held between 30 May and 7 June.
The objective of the raids was to curb the sale of unscheduled medicine or drugs, unregistered and tainted cosmetics containing poisonous substances through online and social mediums such as Instagram, Facebook and WeChat.
He said seven premises in Kuala Terengganu were raided and 103 cosmetic products and drugs products worth RM108,000 were seized.
All the six offenders, aged between 24 and 40, would be charged under the Poison Act 1952 which carries a fine not exceeding RM3,000 or a jail sentence of not more than a year or both, and the Drug Sales Act 1952 which carries a fine of not more than RM25,000 or a jail sentence of not more than three years or both.
