NEW STRAITS TIMES
JOHOR BARU: Photos of a wrecked car next to a railroad track has gone viral on social media, triggering warning among netizens on the dangers of driving near the tracks.
The photos, which were uploaded and shared in several community watch pages on Facebook early today, showed a badly-damaged Honda with a Singapore-registered plate.
The wrecked vehicle was seen pinned against several huge pipes at the railway track.
A Facebook user, identified as Govindan Maripan, who was believed to have uploaded the post, cautioned motorists especially motorcyclists to be wary as the accident had caused congestion.
Govindan also claimed that the car had skidded and plunged into the Keretapi Tanah Melayu railway track near the Singapore checkpoint border.
One of the online commentors suggested that the driver of the Honda must have been speeding and lost control of the vehicle while driving from the Sultan Iskandar Customs and Immigrations Quarantine Checkpoint Building (CIQ) flyover towards the Woodlands Checkpoint.
Another reader said that a road kerb at the flyover could have acted as a barrier which have could have prevented the car from plunging onto the railway track.
It could not be established if anyone was hurt in the incident as the picture showed several motorcyclists rushing to the damaged vehicle to provide aid.
The car appeared to have a smashed windscreen and a dislodged front bumper.
Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh, when contacted, confirmed that the accident occured at 4.45am when those observing fasting on the first day of Ramadan were having their sahur meal.
He said the case is being investigated.
