Charged for letting militant use bank account

BALIK PULAU: A 37-year-old tourist guide has been charged in a magistrate’s court here with managing property for a member of the Abu Sayyaf militant group.
Lisoffuan Abdullah was alleged to have allowed Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee to use his bank account in Bayan Lepas for deposit and withdrawal purposes from Oct 21 last year to April 29 this year.
Lisoffuan, wearing a white T-shirt and blue long pants, appeared calm and nodded his head when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Nur Azzuin Abd Moati yesterday.
He was charged with committing the offence under Section 130Q(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years or a fine and forfeiture of the property concerned, if convicted.
No plea was recorded from Lisoffuan.
DPP Shafiq Mahadi appeared for the prosecution and Lisoffuan was not represented.
No bail was granted to Lisoffuan and magistrate Nur Azzuin fixed July 14 to mention the case.
