Nazri: Tourism Malaysia committee to investigate chairman's conduct

KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Malaysia will form an investigation committee to look into the conduct of its chairman Wee Choo Keong in Beijing recently.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz (pic) said he had instructed Tourism Malaysia to decide on the committee after they hold an internal meeting next week.
"The board will meet at 3pm on May 30, not just to discuss further action, but to form a committee to launch a detailed investigation into the matter.
"I have also instructed them to hand over the result of the investigations, along with their recommendations, to me so I can take action as the minister in charge," he said in reply to a question by Anthony Loke (DAP–Seremban) in Parliament Wednesday.
It was reported that Tourism Malaysia chairman Wee Choo Keong had allegedly lambasted his staff during the Fourth China (Beijing) International Tourism Expo 2016 after seeing an AirAsia bunting put up alongside other promotional material at its booth.
Wee also later alleged that the budget airline had "for years" failed to settle its passenger service charge as well as other debts to Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.
AirAsia denied the allegations, saying it has consistently paid its dues.
Nazri said his ministry is concerned over Wee's outburst because it happened in Beijing, China, from where the ministry is hoping to get four million tourist arrivals this year.
"AirAsia, as Tourism Malaysia's strategic partner, has cooperated with us thus far, and has also agreed to our request to open more routes to bring in tourists from China into the country," he said.
