Two Pakistani nationals were nabbed for driving taxies without licences in Bukit Bintang

JPJ nabs two Pakistanis for driving taxies without licences

THE STAR
KUALA LUMPUR: Cases of foreigners driving taxies in Malaysia without licences are on the rise, said the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

A probe by the Department has shown that it is a growing problem as two Pakistani nationals were nabbed for driving taxies without licences in Bukit Bintang here on Saturday.
JPJ enforcement deputy director Muhammad Kifli Mahassan said the two men were picked up in a citywide operation that started around 8pm.
"The two men, aged 39 and 40, dared to take passengers and drive around the city despite not having valid driving licences or a public service vehicle licence.
"They will be handed over to the Immigration Department for further action while the taxies they were driving have been seized," he said at a press conference at the city JPJ headquarters here after the operation.
Muhammad Kifli said JPJ would be in touch with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and urge them to take action against companies that broke the law and taxi owners who allow foreigners to drive taxies illegally.
In the operation, JPJ also nabbed two more foreigners - an Indonesian and Indian national - for driving a lorry without a licence.
The duo, both in their 40s, were picked up along Jalan Genting Sempah.
"They will also be handed over to the Immigration Department and the lorry has been seized," he said.
Muhammad Kifli said the operation was carried out by 24 JPJ enforcement officers and about 170 summonses for various road offences throughout the city had also been issued.
