Asmuni’s remains buried near wife Noriah.
KUALA SELANGOR: Asmuni Abdullah’s remains were laid to rest near the grave of his wife Datuk Noriah Kasnon at the Batu 12 Sungai Burong Muslim cemetery here on Sunday morning.
His body was buried in his hometown village at 9.57am.
The hearse carrying his remains arrived at the Masjid Ar Rahmah at 9.05am followed by a prayer attended by hundreds of friends and relatives including Noriah's family members.
Asmuni and Noriah, who was Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, died together in the Sarawak helicopter tragedy on Thursday.
Asmuni's younger sister, Norliah, 50, said her brother's four children could not make it to the funeral as they were all in the United States.
''His 20-year-old daughter and three sons aged 21, 18, and 14, have been informed of their father's passing.
''We have also informed Asmuni's 48-year-old ex-wife. They are all still shocked and distraught over his sudden demise,'' she said when met at the mosque.
''My brother had expressed his intention to bring over his children from the States for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
''It is sad that his wish could not be realised,'' she added.
Asmuni was the eldest of five siblings.
Syailina Durasat, 37, who is Asmuni's sister-in-law said it was devastating that Noriah and Asmuni's timeless love was so short-lived.
The couple were childhood sweethearts and were only married for eight months after being apart for over 30 years.
Asked if Asmuni's children would fly to Malaysia and visit their father’s grave, Syailina said the plan would be discussed.
