Since news emerged yesterday of the horrific explosion in Tianjin, China that has killed at least 50 people and leaving hundreds injured, a dramatic new video has emerged showing the fearsome power of the explosion with viewers practically feeling the heat and force of the blast.
While several videos showing aerial footage of the smouldering city as well as chaos on the ground have appeared online since yesterday, this latest video is filmed at a further distance and captures the moment of the blast in all its ferocity.
Posted by Daniel Van Duren to Youtube, he explained that he had filmed the footage on top of his 33-storey apartment block located 1km away.
"It was like watching a nuclear bomb go off in front of us!!" he wrote.
Onlookers can be heard exclaiming loudly in the video upon seeing the series of blasts as the fiery fireball seems to reach closer to the spectators with each successive explosion.
Van Duren wrote that his apartment building was also damaged in the blast but did not mention any casualties or whether he was also injured.
"So we had to run down the whole 33 levels and escape," he only shared.
Many who viewed his video reacted with shock and concern, sharing their comments online.
"Holy cow man!! That was like front row seats to the end of times!! Glad you guys made it out ok! Amazing footage... Tragic situation!" wrote Carlos Paris.
"Be safe lots of toxic chemicals spread by the blast risk of cyanide gas when it rains soon be safe," The Tinfoil Tricorn cautioned.
"At first I thought that people saying it looked like a nuclear blast were exaggerating. Comparing this video with that of a 1 kiloton detonation I realize that the descriptions were accurate." longshot7601 observed.
A 217-strong specialist nuclear, bacteriological and chemical warfare military unit had arrived in Tianjin to help with the clean-up operation, Xinhua news agency reported.
However there is no official confirmation of what set off the initial explosion which is believed to be from a storage facility for dangerous goods in the major Chinese port city.
