JOHOR BARU, Aug 16, 2015:

Despite being handcuffed, a robbery suspect gave police the slip when he drove away a patrol car in Bandar Seri Alam here last night.

However, the 22-year-old who had earlier attempted to rob a Pakistani at an industrial area, found his freedom short-lived.

About 2pm today, his family members handed him over to the Seri Alam district police headquarters to facilitate investigations.

Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Abdul Samad Salleh said the suspect had attempted to rob the Pakistani at 9.03 last night when he was nabbed by two policemen.

“Subsequently, the man was handcuffed (in the front) and left in a police patrol car while the two policemen were outside the vehicle to record details of the victim and the incident.

“However, the suspect suddently took to the wheel and sped away in the car before the vehicle was found abandoned in Kangkar Tebrau at 9.30 this morning,” he said in a statement here today.
