KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (pic) has come to the defence of his father, who has been accused behind the allegations over 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) against the Prime Minister.
The Kedah Mentri Besar said his father would under no circumstances be involved in such situations as to swindle, change facts or even edit emails.
“Those are very unjust accusations. The latest - there are allegations that my father is involved with (Xavier Andre) Justo - in altering documents,” he said.
“If it is unfair to accuse the party leadership, it is also unfair to accuse my father,” he said during a breaking of fast event in PWTC on Sunday night.
A video of his speech was uploaded onto YouTube by a user named minaq jingo, Monday.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been a strong critic of Najib over allegations against 1MDB.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had singled out Dr Mahathir for the “latest lie” after The Wall Street Journal (WSJ)’s report claiming that US$700mil (RM2.6bil) in deposits had been channelled into his personal bank accounts.
Mukhriz said Umno should be united even when faced with problems.
“What we need is the truth. I have no doubts over my loyalty for the leadership. The questions raised must be answered too so that we know what we are supporting,” he added.
Justo, a former IT executive at PetroSaudi International (PSI), was arrested by Thai police last month for allegedly leaking confidential documents on 1MDB's business dealings with PSI.
1MDB later claimed that the documents, which were sighted by Sarawak Report in its exposé of the deal, had been tampered with and were different from the original copies still held in PSI's database
