KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has granted an interim injunction preventing Datuk Seri G. Palanivel (pic) from carrying out his duties as MIC president.
The interim injunction was granted on Monday by judicial commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab.
It prevents Palanivel from addressing himself as the party president, conducting meetings or passing resolutions on behalf of MIC.
The application was filed by Ampang Jaya branch chairman Datuk N. Maneanay @ Muneandy on July 2 after he had obtained permission from MIC's 2009 interim Central Working Committee (CWC).
He said the application was filed to prevent confusion among MIC members, especially branch chairmen.
"I acted in my personal capacity because members are confused over what's going on. I feel as a branch chairman, I should do something about it, " said Maneanay at a press conference, Monday.
Earlier, Palanivel reportedly said nominations for the branch elections would be held on July 15 and 16, and voting from July 24 to 26.
Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramanian, however, said the 2009 CWC had decided that nominations for branch elections would be held on July 10 to 12, and the elections from July 20 to 26.
