BANTING — A notorious Klang-based gangster who was slashed to death outside a restaurant in Teluk Panglima Garang has been identified as a member of Gang 24, a notorious underworld organisation.
Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Azman Abdul Razak said the 35-year-old victim, known as Asli Guna, was held four times under the Emergency Ordinance and detained in Simpang Renggam.
According to him, Asli Guna also had two previous records of robbery.
"Gang 24 mostly base their operations in Klang.
"Asli Guna was in Banting to have drinks with his friend when they were attacked by three parang-wielding men.
"We believe that a drug dispute was the motive behind the murder but we are still investigating whether there are other elements involved in the crime," he added.
Supt Azman said Asli Guna was having drinks with a Nepalese friend at a restaurant on Jalan Pandan 2 when they were ambushed by the three men at about 3am Wednesday.
A brawl soon ensued in the middle of the street between the men.
The three men slashed Asli Guna and his friend before fleeing the scene in a black Proton Iswara.
Asli Guna died from his wounds, but his friend escaped with minor injuries.
Supt Azman said police have identified the suspects and are currently hunting them down.
"One of the suspects is nicknamed Sri Lanka, but we are still finding out whether they are locals or foreigners.
"We have arrested eight people aged between 30 and 40 who were at the scene to facilitate investigations," he explained.
According to Supt Azman, police have queried the Nepalese victim, who is receiving treatment at Hospital Banting.
He added that Asli Guna was slashed three to four times on his head.
The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
