Idris Haron: No need for MACC probe into Malacca's financial losses

MALACCA: The Malacca state government does not see the need to call the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate losses of millions of Ringgit incurred by state government agencies and subsidiaries at the present.
Its Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said it was because the losses were not caused by financial misappropriation, but involved management problems of the affected agencies and subsidiaries.
He said all finances, which involved the state government, was audited by the National Audit Department and the state audit division itself, and there was no evidence of any misappropriation of state government finances.
"When an audit is completed and there is a defect, the state government knows the guidelines that should be applied to solve this problem...I appeal to the people to give me time to resolve all these," he told reporters on the sidelines of the 13th Melaka state assembly sitting here Wednesday.
It was reported that the Malacca state government incurred losses totalling RM360mil due to overspending and bad planning among its subsidiaries and agencies, with Yayasan Melaka incurring the highest loss of RM286mil.
Idris said the state government had actually taken preliminary steps to solve the problem by having a reshuffle involving 18 senior state government officers early this year. - Bernama
