MALACCA: A 33-year-old Indonesian maid who alleged to be a victim of sexual abuse made a daring escape from her employer's house in Tangga Batu on Saturday.
The maid, who immediately lodged a report at the Tanjung Kling police station at 8am after her escape, claimed she had had her breasts fondled by a senior citizen on numerous occasions since the past two months.
It is understood that the victim alleged the sexual harassment was by her employer's father who is 85-years-old.
“The maid, in her report, alleged that she was forced to flee the home of her employer as she could no longer stand being a victim of sexual abuse by the senior citizen.
“She had fled the home on Saturday and stopped a taxi to send her to the Tanjung Kling police station. She left her employer's home without any identification documents,” said the source.
According to the source, the maid was hired sometime in mid-October, last year, through a maid agency in Kuala Lumpur.
“The maid claimed that things were running smoothly in the first three months of her arrival to the country.
“However, since January, the senior citizen started harassing her, including fondling her breasts while she was cooking and doing other household chores
“There were also incidents where the man is alleged to have exposed himself to her,” the source said.
Meanwhile, State Criminal Investigations Department deputy chief, Superintendent P.R. Gunarajan confirmed the report lodged by the maid and said police had picked up the suspect for questioning.
“We had questioned the suspect and his family members but they have denied the allegations and knowing the Indonesian maid..
“The agent and the family of the senior citizen are claiming that they never hired the maid, and have never seen her before.
“The suspect was detained by police, but he was released under police bail due to his current health condition,” he said.
Gunarajan said that police are questioning the neighbours of the family to shed some light into the maid’s allegation, besides working with the Immigration Department to retrieve any documents on the maid.
He urged anyone who could shed some light on the case to go to the nearest police station, or contact investigating officer, Inspector Nor Syamieza Ngah Taman (correct) at 06-2854222.
