The Miss Tourism International 2013/2014 pageant came to its climatic conclusion on New Year’s Eve with Miss Philippines Angeli Dione Gomez clinching the winning title.

Gomez was crowned at the 17th world final at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, making it a second consecutive title for the Philippines and making them the first country to have won the pageant a total of three times.

It would have been a proud moment not just for Gomez, but also for the previous Miss Tourism International Rizzini Alexis Gomez, who was not feeling well and was unable to attend the ceremony.

“I felt a lot of pressure coming into this pageant, seeing as the previous winner was also from my country,” said Gomez after being crowned.

“But right now, I’m overwhelmed to have been named Miss Tourism International. It still feels like I’m dreaming.”

Although Malaysia’s sweetheart Thaarah Ganesan had to settle for the fifth place title of Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International, she graciously congratulated Gomez, who happened to be her roommate for the duration of the delegates’ stay in Malaysia.

“I’m happy to have done this well. I’ve made friends with so many amazing people this past month and I think they each deserved the chance to win,” she said.

The other three of the top five finalists were Sunidporn Srisuwan of Thailand in second place, Sarah Czarnuch of Australia in third place and Michelle Alexis Torres of the Dominican Republic in fourth place.
