19 January 2014
A brace from Emmanuel Adebayor saw Tottenham Hotspur to a convincing 3-1 win over Swansea in an English Premier League match at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs dominated the early possession stakes, but struggled to break down a stubborn Swansea defence.
Instead, the first chance on goal came at the other end in the 13th minute as Swansea broke on the counter-attack which concluded with Jonjo Shelvey firing a shot on goal from just outside the box, but he saw his effort superbly saved by Hugo Lloris.
Leon Britton was quickest to pounce on the rebound, but he fired wide with the goal at his mercy.
Swansea were at it again in the 25th minute as Wilfried Bony struck the crossbar with a powerful shot after being put through on goal by Shelvey.
Ten minutes later, though, and Swansea found themselves a goal down as Adebayor headed home a Christian Eriksen cross at the back post, 1-0.
A minute after taking the lead, Spurs were unlucky not to find their second goals as Gerhard Tremmel produced a fantastic save to deny Nacer Chadli from just inside the box.
The half ended 1-0.
The start of the second 45 saw Spurs dominating matters and they made their pressure tell seven minutes after the restart as Chico Flores diverted Kyle Walker's cross into his own net, 2-0.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 71st minute as Adebayor found his second of the afternoon, producing a cool finish after Danny Rose had played him into space behind the defence, 3-0.
Swansea did find a consolation goal in the 78th minute after Wilfried Bony guided a low cross into the corner of the net from the edge of the box, 3-1.
