PETALING JAYA - The Internet is abuzz with news of a child bride being divorced by her 20-year-old husband, with many blaming the girl's father for the whole fiasco.
Saad Mustafa claimed that the only reason he agreed to the marriage was because her ex-husband Mohd Fahmi Mohamed Alias and his friends had raped her last year.
Fahmi has since denied the allegation.
Nor Fazira Saad married him at the age of 13.
Facebook user Emelyn Lee Way said the blame fell on the father.
"Why marry off your daughter just because you want to jaga maruah keluarga (maintain the family's good name)?
"Because that was your excuse last year. No matter what story you tell, it just shows how retarded your mentality is! Not surprised that this happened!" she said.
Another user Hassan Ghaffor said: "Your own fault. Even if they pestered you 500 nights, you should never trust a rapist."
He was referring to Saad's allegation that Fahmi's family pestered him for five days before he withdrew his police report against Fahmi for raping his daughter.
Netizen Naza Majid said such parents should not be allowed to have children in the first place as it was embarassing to have that kind of mentality.
The news also triggered discussions on child marriages, which most disagreed with.
Twitter user Mijetspie tweeted: "They are not mature enough to make big decisions. Marriage? No way. Most of them can't even decide whom to date."
Another user Natasha Nadirah opined that parents should allow their children to marry only when they are ready.
Twitter user punkbelina shared the sentiments in a series of tweets, among which was "rape should NEVER be tolerated; it only serves as an example for future criminals who will think they can get away with anything".
