Escaped prisoners in Bidor: 83 arrested, 46 still being hunted as of Tuesday morning

IPOH: A special operation carried out by the police and the Malaysian Immigration Department succeeded in arresting 83 detainees who escaped from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot last Thursday, as of 7am Tuesday.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, of that number, 61 people were arrested by the police while another 22 were arrested by the immigration department.

At the same time, he said in a statement, the hunt for the remaining 46 detainees continued to intensify.







In an incident at about 9.50pm on Thursday, a total of 131 detainees at the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot escaped from the men's block of the depot.

However, one of them died after being involved in an accident at Kilometer 335 of the North-South Highway (northbound) late Thursday night.

Another ethnic Rohingya died after being involved in an accident at Kilometer 332.5, near the Tapah Rest and Treatment (R&R) area on Sunday night.

At the time of the incident, the man was believed to be walking before being hit by a pickup motor vehicle.
