The new cabinet remains until the end of the term

PUTRAJAYA: The line-up of the new Cabinet and the changes in ministerial and deputy ministerial positions announced by the Prime Minister will be maintained until the end of the administration of the Madani Government.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, it allows the government to focus fully on the country.

"I hope, God willing (it will last) if the performance is good and satisfactory and there are no new pressures or problems such as the issue of digital transformation," he said during the Cabinet reshuffle press conference here on Tuesday.

He said this while commenting on whether the government will make an annual reshuffle based on the current performance of ministers and deputy ministers considering that the change was made after a year of Madani Government administration.

He said that the Cabinet reshuffle was made with the aim of providing some adjustment after a year of Civilian Government administration.

"The situation also needs to change along with economic development, people's problems and the cost of living which must be dealt with properly.

"Education issues, higher education especially in matters of exploring new fields such as intelligent intelligence (AI) and digital transformation caused me to rethink to make some adjustments according to current conditions and demands," he said.

He said that discussions about the Cabinet reshuffle were done with party leaders before the list of names was presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for approval.

The Cabinet reshuffle saw a minister and two deputy ministers dropped, namely the former Minister of Human Resources, V Sivakumar in addition to Ramkarpal Singh and Datuk Siti Aminah Aching.

Overall, the number of Cabinet ministers has now increased from 28 to 31 people while the number of deputy ministers has increased from 27 to 29 people.

However, the total number of the Cabinet is still low when compared to the 70 members of the Cabinet in the previous administration
