MUMBAI: Oscar winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh was elected as a new member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the last day of the IOC's 141st Session here on Tuesday.
The 61-year-old Malaysian-born international actress is one of eight new members elected to the committee.
Joining the former youth squash champion are Yael Arad (Israel), Balazs Furjes (Hungary), Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta (Peru), Michael Mronz (Germany) and Petra Sorling (Sweden), Xinhua reported.
All five were nominated as individual members by the IOC Executive Board in September.
In addition, Jae Youl Kim from South Korea and Mahrez Boussayene (Tunisia) were also selected in the committee for their contribution in the field of sports.
