CAMERON HIGHLANDS, Jan 10  -- ‘Stealing while touring’ seemed to be the tactic of six individuals including three women who were arrested for suspected breaking into vehicles to steal in the town area of Tanah Rata, here, since a few days ago.

Pahang police chief, Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the six, aged 19 to 38, with some of them being relatives, were detained in a raid at a location in Brinchang, about 11.40 pm last Saturday.

“We received information on the breaking into a Toyota Vellfire vehicle through its back passenger compartment and a sling bag containing RM260,000 in cash was stolen, which was among the seven cases reported.

"The raid conducted by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Cameron Highlands district police headquarters resulted in the arrest of the six suspects in less than an hour later,” he said at a news conference, here, today.

Ramli said police seized a black bag containing the cash, another bag with the break-in equipment, four plastic packets containing a powdery substance and crystals suspected to be syabu, and another packet with lumps of substance and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Also seized from the suspects were jewellery, 10 mobile phones and more cash of RM3,843.

“Further investigation found that there were two more accomplices still at large including one with 26 criminal records.

"The group who had come from Sungai Petani also brought along their children aged between eight months and 19 years. They had been staying at a well-known resort since last Thursday.

“All those arrested are being remanded until this Wednesday to facilitate the investigation,” said Ramli.
