The MM2H program has been re-activated to help generate the country's economy

PUTRAJAYA - The Government will reactivate the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program as one of the strategies to assist in the implementation of the National Recovery Plan (PPN) to regenerate the country's economy.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said new applications would be processed and handled by the Immigration Department (JIM) from next October after all legal processes were completed.

He said the government had also agreed to introduce and set a ceiling on the number of participants covering principals and dependents at a time not exceeding one per cent of the total number of Malaysian citizens.

“The government understands the people's worries and concerns about the entry of foreigners through the MM2H Program which is feared to increase the dumping of foreigners in Malaysia.

“Therefore, only qualified participants who do not have a criminal record will be allowed to participate in this program while the application procedure for this program will also be improved.

"An online system for the purpose of application, processing and profile database of MM2H participants will be created for that purpose," he said in a press statement read by Home Ministry Secretary -General Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz during a press conference at the Home Ministry office today.

Meanwhile, Hamzah said, from 2002 to 2019, the MM2H Program had successfully stimulated the country's economy with a cumulative income of RM11.89 billion through visa fees, property purchases, private vehicle purchases, fixed savings and monthly household expenses.

Previously, applications to join MM2H were frozen following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (PKP) on March 18 last year which saw the country's border closure policy implemented to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic
