KUALA LUMPUR: The Director General of Health has denied the emergence of Lambda variants in the country.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the genome sequencing studies conducted so far did not detect the presence of such variants.
He said this when asked by a user on the social media site Twitter, on Tuesday.
“Incorrectly, a recent genome sequencing study showed all 43 samples were Delta variants as the dominant Variant Of Concern (VOC).
“So far no Lambda variants have been detected in our country,” he said.
The Lambda variant first detected in Peru has spread to 26 countries including major outbreaks in Chile, Peru, Argentina and Ecuador.
