SINGAPORE, July 30 -- Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 278 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the republic today, thus taking the total infection tally to 51,809 cases.

In brief noon data released here, its Ministry of Health (MOH) said the vast majority of the cases were migrant workers residing in dormitories.

"Based on our investigations so far, there are four cases in the community of whom one is a Singaporean and three being Work Pass holders," said the ministry.

In addition, the ministry said there were four imported cases, who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

In its full data released late yesterday, Singapore classified 692 of its cases as imported, 2,172 as community cases and 48,667 as dorm residents.

As at noon yesterday, 46,098 or about 90 per cent of the total cases have fully recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There were 184 confirmed cases still in hospitals.

Of these, most were stable or improving and no cases were in the intensive care unit.

A total of 5,222 patients who had symptoms or were clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 here.

No new cluster was identified yesterday.
