KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 18 motorcycles and two cars following an operation in Bangsar.

Its director general Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid said a total of 127 personnel from five agencies took part in the four-hour long joint operation near the Bangsar LRT station on Thursday (Oct 31).


"We checked a total of 2,450 vehicles during the operations.

"We issued 603 notices for offences including not having a valid driving licence (184), no road tax (157), no motor insurance (158) and no vocational licence (one)," he told reporters at the operations on Thursday.


He said the National Anti-Drug Agency conducted random urine tests on motorists during the operations as well and six of them tested positive for methamphetamines.

"The Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department also issued 51 summonses for various offences during the operations," he said.

Meanwhile, Shaharuddin said since January, his department had issued 1,002,226 notices to errant motorists nationwide.

"Among the notices issued included 98,934 for traffic light offences, 44,761 for overloading, 15,039 for seat belt violations, 22,254 for dangerous loads and 8,581 for helmet violations," he said.

He also said checks with the department records revealed there were now 15.26 million drivers and 30.89 million registered vehicles nationwide.
