KEPALA BATAS: Police have advised the public not to speculate over the incident where a detainee was found hanged at the North Seberang Prai district headquarters lock-up on Friday (Nov 22).

Seberang Prai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police are currently conducting an internal investigation on the matter to determine if there was negligence.

"I would like to ask the public not to speculate or spread inaccurate information on this matter.

"Let the police conduct a thorough investigation," he said when contacted.

ACP Noorzainy said police are also checking the recording of the closed circuit television (CCTV) at the lock-up.

He vowed that the police would conduct a fair investigation and not hesitate to take action if any criminal element was found.

Besides taking statements from the six detainees in the lock-up, police also recorded statements from the deceased's father and brother to help in investigation.

The deceased, a 29-year-old gravedigger, had been detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 with his 38-year-old friend.

They were remanded for seven days since Thursday (Nov 21) with six other inmates where he was found hanged inside the lock-up at 4am.

ACP Noorzainy said a postmortem conducted at Seberang Jaya Hospital found no physical injuries on the body.

He added that the pathology report ruled out foul play and the case was classified as sudden death.
