PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and PKR central leadership council advisor, at the Reformist Convention in IDCC, Shah Alam Sunday (Nov 24).

SHAH ALAM: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he has no intention of accepting a Cabinet position in the event of a reshuffle.

"I have no such intention," he told reporters when asked to comment if he was interested in joining the Cabinet before taking over as the eighth prime minister.

On Nov 21, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said that Cabinet reshuffle was set to happen soon.

Also present at the convention was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Earlier in his speech, Anwar urged all parties to be patient and not to raise the issue of transition plan between him and Dr Mahathir.

"We need to give space to Dr Mahathir so that the process can take place peacefully.

"If it happens smoothly and peacefully, it will be easier for Dr Mahathir to continue with his work and it will be easier for me after the handover," the Port Dickson MP told reporters after launching the Reformist Convention 2019.

Anwar reiterated that only the Pakatan Harapan leadership council could decide who would take over as the eight prime minister.

He also reminded that the reform agenda had yet to be completed after winning the last general election.

He said such reforms would be only be complete once the correct agenda has been implemented, including to protect the interests of the lower-income group and to make sure that their economic livelihood can be improved.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) has told PKR leaders not to forget the party's original struggle and warned against a return to "bad habits".

He said that some have started to divert from the party's struggle and were even ashamed to call for reforms.

"They forget that our struggle is not to protect the interests of one or two people, who are ministers.

"Especially not those 'whoever supports me will get projects, those who do not support, will not get' (people). These are Umno's old bad habits," the PKR president said in his opening address at the Reformist Convention 2019 here to some 500 supporters to cheers and chants of "reformasi" from the floor.

Anwar, who is also Port Dickson MP, said he had raised the same issue during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"This is what we want to correct – we have the responsibility but we abused it.

"We want to stop such practices. This is the meaning of abuse of power.

"Not only do you meet with party members, but you hold discussions with the Opposition.

"This project, that project... What party is this? Project party?" asked Anwar, drawing laughter from the floor.

On Monday (Nov 18) night, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had a meeting with 27 MPs from PKR and Umno at his residence in Putrajaya.

Despite raised eyebrows over his get-together which included Opposition MPs, Azmin described the meeting as nothing out of the ordinary.

Dr Mahathir had also announced on Wednesday (Nov 20) that a Cabinet reshuffle could happen before the Apec summit next year.
