KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was given an update on the iconic Battersea Power Station regeneration project on Sept 29, as part of his two-day official visit to London.

The project is co-owned by SP Setia, Sime Darby Property and the Employees Provident Fund, while the commercial assets within the Power Station building are directly owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd and the EPF following an acquisition earlier this year.


According to a statement, the Prime Minister also toured one of the apartments at Circus West Village, the first phase of the project to complete, which has a striking view of the restoration works being carried out on the Power Station.

Following his visit, Mahathir remarked that the project is something Malaysians can be proud of.



The Circus West Village is home to over 1,000 residents as well as a thriving community of restaurants, bars and cafes as well as a cinema, hair and beauty salon, theatre and spin studio.

"Over two million people have visited this new riverside destination in the last 12 months, as well as playing host to a number of different festivals over the summer, including the London Seafood Festival," said SP Setia.

Progress on the transformation of Battersea Power Station continues at pace, it added.

Work has commenced on the chimney lift experience, a glass elevator inside the North West Chimney that will take visitors up to a 150m-high viewing platform.

Progress is also being made on Electric Boulevard, the third phase of the project, which comprises buildings by Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners, marking their first-ever collaboration.

"We are confident that projects such as Battersea Power Station help to underpin the credentials of Malaysia and Great Britain as global champions of free trade," said Datuk Ahmad Pardas Senin, chairman of Batterseas Project Holding Company.
