PUTRAJAYA, Sept 15 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today he will look into a letter alleging his support and approval of the Finance Ministry over the direct negotiation for a project located in Tunjong in Kelantan.

Speaking to reporters after the Putrajaya Boat Race Championship 2019, the prime minister said he has never approved any new direct negotiations since taking over Putrajaya last year.

However, he admitted that there is a possibility that the direct negotiation indicated in a letter which copy has gone viral, is a continuation of the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration’s decision.

“I never approved anything. Maybe they received approval before this. Maybe it’s a continuation,” he told reporters, referring to the company involved.

“When Pakatan Harapan took over the government, we found and stopped all contracts. When contracts stopped, or was not renewed the workers were laid off and stopped working. We should have renegotiated or reopened the tender.

“I don’t know which case this is. I have to check on this,” he added.

The letter dated July 26, 2019 was allegedly faxed to the Prime Minister’s Department Senior Deputy Chief Secretary Datuk Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad.

It referred to a “design and build” project for a RM45 million project of “Bangunan Gunasama Persekutuan” in Tunjong, the new administrative area near Kota Baru.

The letter said that it referred to a letter sent by the prime minister dated July 9, 2019, and was allegedly written by Datuk Zamzuri Abdul Aziz from the Government Procurement Divison, on behalf of the Treasury secretary-general.

The letter was tweeted by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Razlan Rafii earlier today.
