PETALING JAYA: The production team behind the Tamil film Raatchasi has thanked Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik for his support in a letter signed by actress Jyothika.
The letter thanked Maszlee for supporting the movie and wanting to see a change for the better in the education system.
"As 90% of the crew members themselves have studied in government schools, this was more of a real life experience put on celluloid, rather than making a money spinning feature film," Jyothika said.
"All we wanted as a team is that the future generations should stand firmly on a solid ground of a quality education-based system, and get equal opportunities to prove their mettle," she added.
Maszlee, who shared the letter on his Facebook page on Friday (Sept 6), said he was surprised to receive the letter.
"This film, although set in a different background, has a global message in its aspirations and should be watched by all," Maszlee said.
"To Jyothika, continue your acting career. I cannot deny your talent. (We were all inspired by your character) Geetha Rani.
"I cannot forget the scene of you and Kathir in the headmaster's room," he added, thanking the crew for the inspirational movie.
On Tuesday (Sept 3), Maszlee lauded the film, saying that it had interpreted his aspirations which included the Free Breakfast Programme initiative.
The film Raatchasi, directed by S. Gowthamraj, portrays Jyothika as the main character going through the challenges of being a headmaster wanting to improve the situation at a dilapidated government school.
Maszlee said the film touched on student failures, where the character, Geetha, succeeded in getting everyone involved, including the police, in resolving the issue.
