PETALING JAYA: Britain's Prince Edward will be in Malaysia on a two-day visit, starting Sept 10 as part of his tour to Malaysia and Australia.

His visit will celebrate the many aspects of the UK-Malaysia relationship ahead of Malaysia Day, British High Commissioner Charles Hay said.

"His visit will also cover a broad spectrum of interests – from education and sporting partnerships to joint efforts in tackling plastic waste and conserving the ocean," Hayes said in a statement on Friday (Sept 6).

The Earl of Wessex will start his visit with a meeting with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

As vice-patron of the Commonwealth Games, he will meet Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, where they will see Malaysian athletes in action ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He will also attend a special screening of BBC Studios’ Blue Planet II, as well as visit an exhibition that showcases joint UK-Malaysian efforts in tackling plastic waste and protecting the environment.

The screening and exhibition are jointly organised by the British High Commission and Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry.

Prince Edward, who is also the chairman of trustees for The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, will attend The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Asia Pacific Regional Conference.

He will be participating in a youth roundtable to discuss the values of non-formal education and meet award operators from the region.

He will also preside over a Gold Award presentation ceremony with over 150 gold awardees from across Malaysia.

Prince Andrew, the third son of Queen Elizabeth II, last visited Malaysia in 2004, also with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation.
