Crown Prince of Johor congratulates Joe Flizzow on MTV win
5 Nov – You know you've done good when royalty tweets about your achievement on the global stage.
It was a proud day for Malaysia when hip hop artiste Joe Flizzow was named the Best Southeast Asian Act at the recently held 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). It was an achievement befitting a congratulatory tweet from the Crown Prince of Johor himself, HRH Major General Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who immediately posted on his social media: "Congratulations @flizzow for winning the Best Southeast Asia Act at the 2018 @mtvema today. Proud of you homeboy!"
The 39-year-old Malaysian singer-rapper, who made history as the first Malaysian to win the award at MTV EMAs, tweeted an equally psyched reply: "Couldn't have done it without your love and support. See you in JB, Tunku!"
The prince's post was made about the same time that the singer himself tweeted about his win, which was announced ahead of the awards ceremony's live broadcast from the Bizkaia Arena (Bilbao Exhibition Centre) in Barakaldo.
"I am truly humbled and blessed I had the entire Malaysia supporting me. I hope this win will inspire the younger generation to never stop believing in their dreams and to work hard in trying to achieve their goals," said Joe in a press statement.
Joe competed with Singaporean pop band The Sam Willows, Vietnamese singer Minh Hang, Filipino band IV of Spades, Thai rock band Slot Machine, Thai rapper Twopee Southside, and Indonesian singer Afgansyah Reza for the accolade.
