Cops shoot man armed with meat cleaver in Taman Dengkil Jaya

SEPANG: Police shot and injured a man armed with meat cleaver at Taman Dengkil Jaya here today, after he attacked a group of policemen trying to conduct checks on him.
In the 2.20pm incident, sources said two of the three shots fired landed on the man's right thigh and abdomen.
It is learnt that the suspect is currently undergoing surgery at Putrajaya Hospital.
Sources said the drama unfolded at Jalan Air Hitam Dengkil when the police team spotted the man, walking along the stretch while carrying a 6-inch long meat cleaver.
When the officers tried to stop him for further checks, the man suddenly lurched at them with the sharp weapon.
“The suspect missed the officers by inches, forcing them to move back several metres.
“One of the policemen tried to reason with him but to no avail, forcing them to open fire,"
Once apprehended, the policemen rushed him to the Putrajaya Hospital for treatment. © New Straits Times Press
