GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying, daughter of Lim Kit Siang, has been appointed as Senator for Dewan Negara for the next three years.
Also appointed was Yusmadi Yusoff, former PKR member of Parliament for Balik Pulau.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Padang Kota) had proposed both names at the first state legislative assembly sitting which wrapped up today.
The proposal was seconded by Dr Afif Bahardin (PH-Seberang Jaya).
The two will be replacing Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail and Dr Ariffin SM Omar whose tenure ended on June 1.
Hui Ying, 55, is DAP’s election campaign director in Penang during the 2013 and 2018 polls.
She is an economics graduate from Universiti Malaya.
Yusmadi, 44, is a lawyer who served as Balik Pulau MP for one term back in 2008. © New Straits Times Press
