KAJANG: A woman was killed in a freak accident at noon today after she was dragged by her own car for about 10 metres.

In the accident which took place along Jalan Saujana Impian from Semenyih to Cheras, the victim was driving her Perodua Myvi out of a petrol station and entered the left lane.

Kajang district police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff said the victim then changed to the adjacent right lane after which she was hit from behind by a lorry.

"As a result of being hit, the victim was believed to have accidentally accelerated, leading her to lose control of her vehicle before hitting the road divider.

"The Perodua Myvi was then said to have spun a few times and the victim was thrown out of her car through the window on the driver's side.

"At the time, the car was still in motion and the victim was dragged by the car for about 10 metres before the car stopped," Ahmad Dzaffir said in a statement, here, today.

Police received a distress call from members of the public on the accident at about 12.30pm.

He informed that the victim sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene.

"Her body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for post-mortem. Her family members have already claimed her remains and she was buried in Kajang.

"Traffic police officers on duty took more than an hour to control the traffic at the scene with the help of Fire and Rescue Department personnel," Ahmad Dzaffir added.

He said all the vehicles involved in the crash were taken to the Kajang district police headquarters under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 to facilitate investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987." © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
