Yuna Joins Mary J. Blige On List Of Nominees For 2017 BET Awards, Makes History As First M'sian
The Kedah-born singer-songwriter, Yunalis Zarai or fondly known as Yuna, has consistently done Malaysia proud since she spread her wings beyond her homeland – establishing a global fanbase, aside being a musical and lyrical genius in her own right.
So it comes as no surprise that the ‘Decorate’ and ‘I Wanna Go’ singer made history yet again as she has been nominated for a BET Awards in the United States for her hit duet with Usher titled, ‘Crush’, making her the first Malaysian artist to do so.
Yuna has been nominated in the prestigious BET Centric category alongside Fanstasia’s ‘Sleeping With The One I Love’; Solange’s ‘Cranes In The Sky’; Mary J. Blige’s ‘Thick Of It’; Kehlani’s ‘Distraction’; and Syd’s ‘All About Me.’
The singer shared the exciting news on her Twitter last night saying: “My song Crush feat. @Usher nominated for Centric Award @bet! i love everyone on this list with all my heart thank you so much! #BETawards.”

Although the BET Centric award was initially awarded to recognise neo soul and traditional R&B songs and videos, Malay Mail highlighted that the coveted award now recognises specific songs since 2013 – with a list of past winners which include Beyonce, The Weeknd, and Common.
The annual event is organised by the BET network to honour African Americans and other minorities who are making a living in the various fields that makes up the entertainment industry.
The 2017 BET Awards is scheduled to be broadcast live on June 25, 2017 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
