PETALING JAYA: A brawl in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar, early this morning led to the arrest of 21 people, including four women.

Police were alerted to the brawl in front of a restaurant about 3.30am, theSundaily and NST online reported.

On arriving at the scene, they found some 30 people fighting.

In the midst of breaking up the fight, the driver of a Perodua Axia, with a smashed rear windshield, sped towards the policemen in his bid to flee the scene, and almost rammed into one of the officers standing near his patrol car.

A policeman reacted by firing a shot, hitting the bumper of the car.

Minutes later, police found the vehicle abandoned in front of a bank nearby.

Brickfields police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said police seized three vehicles, including the Perodua Axia and a Toyota Vellfire.

“We lifted five sets of fingerprints from the Axia and are on the lookout for those who have escaped,” Sharul said.

He said police found three motorcycle helmets, a metre-long rod, a knife, a baton and a bloodstained jacket inside the car.

One of the men arrested, who was injured in the fight, was taken to hospital for treatment.

He said investigations into the case were ongoing and the motive behind the fight has yet to be ascertained.

This is the second such incident in the area in two months.

On April 1, three policemen, who were investigating a fight in Jalan Telawi 3, were assaulted by a group of men, at about 4.30am.

This came after six party-goers, who had just left a club, were assaulted by a gang of eight men.

The gang members were drunk and one of them had pointed a gun at the party-goers who fled the scene and lodged a police report.

When the three cops came to investigate, a group of 10 men, armed with sticks and bottles, came out from the club and assaulted the trio.

One of the attackers allegedly shouted, “How dare you disturb Gang 36?”

The men fled when one of the policemen whipped out his gun.

One of the policemen was seriously injured and received 30 stitches on his head.
