Citizens nab suspect, keep her tied to a tree for cops

PETALING JAYA: A 56-year-old woman implicated in a previous cheating case was captured by the public, tied up to a tree with raffia string, and handed over to the police.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the Chinese national was arrested by policemen on patrol who rushed to the scene at the Jalan Wawasan 2, Puchong morning market on Saturday after getting word of the citizen's arrest.
He said that she was arrested after the police found her to be a suspect in a cheating case reported last August, adding that the complainant in that case was also at the scene in Puchong.
ACP Megat said that in the August 2016 case, the complainant was approached by a woman who had claimed she needed the complainant’s help for her sick child, and asked to be taken to a nearby location.
Along the way, they were met by a second suspect, and a third suspect showed up when they finally reached their destination.
“The three of them asked the complainant to remove all her jewellery and put it in a bag,” he said, adding that the three suspects then fled.
ACP Megat said that losses were estimated to be about RM10,000 and that the case was investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
He added that the suspect has no previous criminal record
