KUCHING: The remains of Tan Sri Adenan Satem were interred with state honours at the Samariang Muslim cemetery here Thursday. He was laid to rest at 2.40pm.

Thousands of people from all walks of life attended the funeral to pay their respects.

Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak were among the VIPs who attended the funeral prayers at Masjid Jamek.

Acting state imam Ustaz Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi performed the prayers.

Taib then proceeded to present the Sarawak flag, which was draped over Adenan's casket, to Adenan's wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu.

Officers and men from the military and police later carried the casket to a hearse at 1.25pm for the two-kilometre journey to the cemetery.

Many people lined the route to the cemetery to pay their last respects.

Adenan died at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan here from complications of heart disease at 1.24pm yesterday, 16 days short of his 73rd birthday.
