KUALA LUMPUR: Police removed RM7.07mil worth of drugs off the streets by busting a drug syndicate with links to the notorious Gang 36.

The drug bust, which took place around 6pm on Friday, saw police from the city narcotics department storm a storage container in Jalan Antoi Kanan 6, Kepong.

City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said eight people, including a woman in the container, were arrested. The suspects were aged 30 to 54.

"We also found two bags that had about 2kg of ketamine, a bottle of chloroform and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol stashed behind the container, which was being used as a drug den," he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters Monday.

Following the arrest of the eight, police were led to some bushes near the container where they found three luggage bags wrapped in plastic.

"Inside, we found 99kg of ketamine, which with the 2kg found earlier, is worth a total of RM7.07mil," he said.

Comm Amar Singh said the 38-year-old mastermind of the drug ring who was also arrested in the raid, is a Gang 36 member.

"We are investigating if the others are also members of the gang," he said.

Comm Amar Singh said police had been monitoring the group for a few months and believe the drugs were smuggled in from overseas to be sold in the Klang Valley, mainly in entertainment outlets.

"The amount of drugs is huge. At 1gm per person, it is enough for 101,000 people or uses," he said. All eight suspects tested positive for drugs and have been remanded until Thursday.
