MyPPP Deepavali open house proceeds in spite of PM's absence

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians from all walks of life celebrated the festival of lights at a Deepavali open house in Little India, Brickfields here today.
Organised by the MyPPP, the open house saw many, decked in their best Deepavali garb, sampling an array of Indian delicacies such as thosai, vadey and jalebi.
MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas in his speech said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who was supposed to attend the event, sent his regards.
"I spoke to the Prime Minister, and he sends his regards and love to all of you.
"He has to leave for China for an official visit, and also to pay respects to families of the victims of the Johor hospital fire,” he said.
Kayveas added that MyPPP could not cancel their open house event because of Najib’s absence, as everything had already been arranged, and they could not leave the venue empty.
However, due to the Hospital Sultanah Aminah tragedy, MIC’s Deepavali celebration had to be cancelled out of respect to the families of the victims.
The annual celebration was supposed to be held at Batu Caves, today.
