SUNGAI PETANI: Some people just never learn. Four multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) were caught on camera cruising down the emergency lane on the highway from here to Gurun, two days after four Klang Valley taxi drivers were photographed hogging the lane ahead of an ambulance with sirens wailing.

Traffic was also heavy on the highway due to the rain here on Wednesday morning.

Angry motorists who were caught in the crawl posted photos of the four MPVs on the Penang Kini facebook page, with the post having gone viral on social media.

“Maybe they’re targeting to visit 100 houses for Raya so they have to rush,” a netizen commented.

Last month, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that it will bring road users who use the emergency lane to court immediately.

JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said those who are adamant in using the emergency lane will be brought to court under Rule 9 and 53 of Road Traffic Rules 1959 that carries a fine of not more than RM2,000 or a jail term of not less than a year.
